000903: Ida Pohl with Sister and Boyfriends
About 1909
A photograph of Adelheid T. "Ida" (Pohl) Stewart [00198] standing, right, her sister Mary (Pohl) Milligan [00548] standing, left, and friend Amelia Blakley, front kneeling. The gentlemen are probably their boyfriends and their names are unknown. The gentleman next to Ida is possibly her future husband John Galbreath Stewart [00197]. He has similar facial features but looks much younger than in known pictures of him.
This photograph was probably taken in or prior to 1910, the year in which Ida married John Stewart. The location is probably Linhart, Pennsylvania. Notice the four onlookers in the background. Getting your picture taken in your dress clothes must have been a spectacle. Perhaps the group is on their way to a social function, or just returned from church.
The house in the background (left) is not the Pohl homestead. Plat maps of Wilkins Township show there was no house to the left of the Pohl house (when facing front). The other house is brick and the Pohl house was wood framed.
